If I had to live underwater for two years, I would want to be a mermaid. One of those mystical creatures of old, who enticed seafarers to an incredible world that flourished beneath the depths of the ocean. My long flowing locks would swirl around me as I lay on the sun heated rocks waiting for my unsuspecting prey. My siren call would be heard for miles, as I lured my victims to my side. Enthralled by my beauty, these unsuspecting men would give their very lives to be close to me. The tales of my seducements would be known all over the world and stories would abound about my beauty and powers.

I grew up in a very strict environment and was raised in the Pentecostal faith. The words in the bible were considered to be sacred and were taken very literally. We were told that the only way to enter the gates of heaven was by being “born again”, confessing our sins and accepting Jesus as our personal savior. Our reward was a place in heaven, where the streets were lined with gold; there were no worries, no pain, no suffering. We were taught the road to heaven was a narrow one and only traveled by those who lived by the words of Jesus. As I grew older, I began to doubt many of the teachings of the Pentecostal Church. I went away to college and realized that there were many different faiths and beliefs. I began to question the literal truth of the bible. I no longer believe in a physical heaven, as we are told about in the Bible. I think that we make our own heaven on earth, by our good deeds and our compassion for others. Is there a Heaven? Yes, I think that there is. If you are living a life that is filled with beauty, happiness, and caring for your fellow man, I think that you are already there.

If I had to tell my best friend one thing that I cannot stand about her it would be how she sometimes says “your silly” when I say things that were not even meant to be funny. It is just the way she says it like its code for “you’re an idiot” or something. I really don’t thing she means it this way and I am sure she only says it when she has no response for what I have just said or maybe the particular comment or topic I have discussed is uncomfortable for her. I really don’t know. If I were to tell her this I am sure her reaction would be embarrassed more than anything. Nobody likes being called out!

Who has not caved into peer pressure at one point or another? Whether it is something as small as laughing at a rude comment someone makes about someone else just to fit in or something more serious like drinking or doing drugs. I myself am victim of all of these things sadly. However, I have to honestly say that I would not go back in time and change a thing because without my adolescent mistakes I would not be the woman that I am today. I am one to try my best to grow and learn from my mistakes. This of course does not mean that I condone doing these things in order to find yourself. There are consequences for every action and no two people’s paths are the same.
